Abstract

The  protection  of  vascular  flora  in  peninsular  Spain  and  the  Balearic  islands.  This  article  describes  the  main  legal  measures protecting flora in peninsular Spain and the Balearic islands at the state and autonomy levels. These measures should be based on previous knowledge, which for the Spanish vascular flora is quite high although every issue of Flora Iberica provides some surprises. In Spain the main legal tool for the protection of ecosystems and biodiversity is the Law for the conservation of natural spaces and the wild fauna and flora, of 1989. At the autonomic level legislation is quite uneven.
