Polar data management in Spain: an approach to the contribution of life sciences. Since 2004 Spain has a polar data policy, and through the protocol of sending, storage and diffusion of the Antarctic data implemented by the National Polar Data Centre, this organism acts for execute the article III.c of Antarctic Treaty which demands the information interchange between the signer countries. This article describes the operative process of support and management that frame the procedure of sending information by the Antarctic scientific community and makes an approximation to the contribution made by investigators from the life science by two different points of view. The first point of view corresponds to the contribution of life sciences to the information systems based on metadata, by means of analyze the contribution of those within the Global Master Directory of NASA. And the second point of view responds to the contribution of Spanish scientific community in the ecology through the issued articles in ISI Thomson index papers.
