Data set of the plant-Buprestidae (Coleoptera) interactions from Mexico
Main Article Content
Abstract
A data set of the plant-buprestid interactions in Mexico is presented based on scientific publications, and Mexican entomological collections, with the aim to facilitate its access and use of those data among taxonomists, ecologists, and other people interested in the study and exploration of the plant-Coleoptera relationship, as well as its potential use in conservation plans. A total of 1656 interaction records based on more than 5200 specimens documented in 115 reports –published from 1902 a 2020–, and from approximately 7000 specimens from three entomological collections were compiled. The interaction records compiled belong to 45 genera, 318 species, and 13 subspecies of Mexican buprestids, associated to 56 families, 159 genera, and 202 species, subspecies, and varieties of host plants, observed or collected between 1895 and 2015 from 29 Mexican provinces. Buprestid’s life-stage and the plant tissue used by each species were also documented, which was used to classify them into five trophic guilds and to assign a type of association to each pair of interacting species.
