Abstract

Community intervention in Challa district, with the Ayllu Urinsaya Challa community.

The Aymara community of the Ayllu Urinsaya lives  in  the  Eastern  slopes  of  the  Bolivian  Andes.  The  inhabitants  live  in  a  situation  of  chronic  extreme  poverty  and  they  have  serious difficulties  to  get  access  to  education  and  health  system.  Its  economical  system  is  based  upon  barter  and  therefore  their  chances  of establishing commercial relations with the city are scarce. Most of the inhabitants are not able to read and write and do not speak Spanish (they  only  speak Aymara), which makes their access to education even more difficult. The Mayma Association for International Cooperation
is designing a Community Intervention Program aimed at promoting and encouraging the development of the community. With this goal, an investigation project based upon Participative Investigation Action (PIA) and the Sphere Project indicators is being undertaken, in order to identify the needs of this community.
